Dynamics GP 10 Reporting Sneak Peak

From Char Gust of Microsoft via the Dynamics GP Newsgroup, here's some reporting hints for Dynamics GP 10 due early next year:

"With Dynamics GP 10, we will be adding several new options for getting data out of the system, including pre-defined refreshable Excel reports and about 100 SQL Reporting Services reports. We have prioritized the reports that are highly used, often customized. We hope these new reporting options will alleviate some of the concerns noted here. "

Will we able to create new excel reports other than the predefined ones? I have seen some screenshots of GP 10. And it looks damn good.

I really don't like the Report Writer tool. Is there going to be any improvement on that?

I don't know if you'll be able to create your own Excel reports, you can do a lot of that now with SQL and ODBC but it doesn't use the GP security so it's a pain on the SQL side. I haven't seen much on the Excel reports beyond that release.

I have heard that Report Writer is NOT going away anytime soon but that SQL Reporting Services will be used more and more to supplement and eventually replace Report Writer, but it won't be in v 10.

I've also heard to expect a slowdown in releases after 10. v10 will be out a year after 9.0 was released (early 2007, around the time of Vista). Since GP is on a 6 month time frame for service packs that only gives 2 sp's for 9.0. I think they want people on older versions to have a chance to catch up.
