Kimberly Tripp, DotNetRocks and SQL Server 2005 SP1
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "For the DBA's out there supporting GP or the psuedo DBA's just working to keep it running, the DotNetRocks show this week has Kimberly Tripp talking about SQL Server 2005 SP1 and the updates included.
Kim really is a trip (pun intended) and listening to her blows my mind."
Dynamics GP 9.0 Service Pack 1
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "Let the stampede begin. For those of you waiting for the first service pack to upgrade to Dynamics GP 9.0, the first service pack is here. It was actually out last week but I was away for the weekend and didn't get the post out in time.
Those of you with Customer Source access can download it here."
Weekly Dynamic: Custom Reminders From a Smartlist in v9
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "In Dynamics GP 9 you can now create a custom reminder based on Smartlist data. The system comes with a number of preset alerts but if, for example, you wanted to get an alert if a specific customer balance was over $20,000, you can do it. Doing this is easy.

April's New Knowldedge Base Articles
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "April's additions to the Dynamics GP knowledge base at this link. You will need a customersource login to see them. I notices a lot of Integration Manager additions around SQL Server 2005 and GP 9.0 so make sure to check those out if you are getting ready to upgrade.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Schedule Backups in 9.0
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "Dynamics GP 9.0 allows you to schedule backups from within the application. You'll need to be logged in to GP as an administrator and you'll need to be on the server. Go to File-Backup. Enter the system password if you've set one. The backup window opens, pick Schedule. "
The American Idol of Dynamics GP
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "As a reminder, Microsoft Dynamics has a feature survey available until June 30th where you can vote for what features you want in upcoming versions of Dynamics GP. This is the American Idol of Dynamics GP, where you get to vote for the winners, and there's no Simon, Paula or Randy to deal with. The survey is available at"
Dynamics GP 10 Reporting Sneak Peak
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "From Char Gust of Microsoft via the Dynamics GP Newsgroup, here's some reporting hints for Dynamics GP 10 due early next year:

Subledger Work/Open Plumbing
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "I've been slowly working on a project at work to pull together all of our subledger, GL and unposted GL transactions for various accounts into a daily report email. This way, if a subledger/GL combo gets out of balance we know it right away and can fix it without wading through hundreds of transactions at month end. It's a bit of challenge because not all of our subledgers live in GP. In the Scripts section of the website there is a SQL script with much of the plumbing for this if you want to play with it yourself.
While working on this, I've found a few idiosyncracies in the plumbing of GP and I wanted to share them before I forgot.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Cut Checks Without Adding the Vendor
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "Dynamics GP 9.0 adds functionality to let you cut a check on the fly, without adding the vendor. Don't look for this functionality under Purchasing though, it's actually part of the Banking module and it's found in Transactions-Financial-Miscellaneous Check.
"
Quick tip - Entering dates
eOne Dynamics GP Blog
writes "This is a tip that I am surprised that not many people know about. If you are entering a date for the current month, you only have to enter the day and the rest of the date will be defaulted when you tab out of the field. So if you enter 1 and tab out of a date, the date will change to the first of the month. If you enter the day and month, the current year will default. If you are doing a lot of data entry, this can save you quite a few keystrokes.

Nice Review of Audit Trails
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "The eOne Dynamics GP blog has a nice review of the upcoming Audit Trails feature for Dynamics GP 9.0. They did such a nice job that all I have to do it to point you to the link here.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Putting the Fix in Fixed Assets
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "Fixed sporting events are bad. Fixed transmissions are good. Fixed Assets are ...well... in between.
Today I want to look at some potential issues in the Fixed Asset module and what you can do about it. I'm using version 8 but these items should apply backwards and forward for several versions. There haven't been that many chages to FA. So here we go:
"
Product Review: Audit Trails
eOne Dynamics GP Blog
writes "One of the announcements at Convergence was the availability of Audit Trails, a new add-on module that helps with Sarbanes Oxley compliance by creating audit trails of selected tables in your Dynamics GP database. Audit Trails was originally written by Merit Solutions, and was OEMed by Microsoft along with Merit's Electronic Signatures product.
"
DynamicAccounting.net Website Makeover
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "I'm giving the DynamicAccounting.net website a makeover this weekend. So far, I'm fairly happy but It's not quite where I want to be. I expect to be playing with it for a few weeks to get it just right, but it's mostly done. If you're looking for Dynamics GP info, don't worry, you've come to the right place.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Lists
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "This week I'm looking at a feature I haven't used a lot, Dynamics GP lists. Lists can be turned on using icons at the bottom of the Shortcuts bar or from the view menu (View->Financial Lists for example). Lists are weird hybrid, somewhere between Inquiries and SmartLists. Basically, lists are a way to see information with greater flexibility than Inquiry screens but less work than a Smartlist.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Dynamics GP 9 Payables
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "In version 9, the Dynamics GP team has done an overhaul on the AP module, so I thought we could take a look at it this week. The largest change is that the team purchased and integrated a third party product to make check selection easier, but we'll get to that in a second.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Windows in Advanced Security
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "Richard from FMT Consultants was kind enough to point this tip out in the newsgroup but I thought that I would elaborate.
When using Advanced Security, sometimes you want to see what window you are adjusting rights to. Well, it's pretty easy but first you need to turn the feature on.
"
Weekly Dynamic: Version 9 Home Page Tour
DynamicAccounting.net
writes "One of the most dramatic new features in 9.0 is the Home page. The Home page is part of Dynamics GP’s emphasis on Roles Based computing. Similar to when Explorer (now Smartlists) was released, the Home page has pretty good functionality but I hope it will be expanded on in the future. My only concern is that by calling it the Home Page, it will get confusing in conversation. GP changed “Explorer” to “Smartlists” for just this reason. Too many explorers! Now, on to the tour...."
Microsoft Dynamics CRM connector for GP
mennotk
writes "might have seen on Convergence we have build a connector between Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics GP. The connector offers datamapping options for accounts, contacts, product catologs, orders and prices. It syncs bi-directional with account and contact data in Microsoft CRM. It uses an easy to understand interface.
Some benefits of this connector are for example having customer data in one place, you can access it through your browser or Outlook. It gives decision makers a better tool and insight on how to act and handle. Last but not least it will lower your TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
If you want to read more about this go visit this page and some more detailed information about it:
