Creating Solutions: A Custom CRM Usage Log
crmbest
writes "Philip Richardson has created and blogged about a solution that creates an log of CRM usage. Typically such a log is used to monitor adoption (ie. have you herded your cats into the barn?). In a series of blog posts he takes you through the process of developing the solution and the deployment package."
Error Promoting Item to CRM
Larry Lentz
writes "Often, when I attempt to send an e-mail from Outlook that is tracked in CRM,
I receive the error:
An error occurred promoting this item to Microsoft CRM. The Microsoft CRM
server could not be contacted or the user has insufficient permissions to
perform this action. Do you want to send the e-mail? If you click Yes, the
e-mail will be sent out, but no corresponding activity will be created in
Microsoft CRM.
Working with Partner Managed Newsgroups support, it seems that there is a problem with promoting....

Microsoft CRM 3 Mobile Demo
Ben Vollmer
writes "So I am looking at building a Microsoft CRM 3.0 Mobile Demo unit, that is self contained. Would be interested in knowing what OS you would like the install package built for. Please take the poll or leave a comment. "
What's Next: Microsoft CRM Mobile 3.0
Frank Lee
writes "We've finally got a chance to play with the just released Microsoft CRM Mobile 3.0, the setup from the implementation guide was pretty straight forward (to us anyway) and our initial environment was up and running in a few hours. We've decided to start with the Dell Axim x51v PDA. The main reason we went with the Axim x51v vs. one of them hot PDA phones is that it will serve as a good baseline - the x51v fullfilled all the Microsoft CRM 3.0 Mobile requirements with extra room to spare... except for the phone part... And it supports VGA screen resolution mode - 480x640 baby!!!

Managing SQL RAM for CRM
Larry Lentz
writes "Recently I invested in a couple of 1 GB RAM sticks for my CRM SBE server, giving me a total of 3 GB. I felt I got some benefit from it, but not as much as I had figured. Then more recently I happened to be trying to relieve some memory use on the server so I could run a test VPC briefly. I noticed that I had 4 SQL server instances running. This is as expected with the default instance which CRM uses, SharePoint, SBS Monitoring, and ISA 2004. One of these I noticed was using 1.2 GB! Must be my CRM."
A few Items
Larry Lentz
writes "I have been working with Partner Managed Newsgroups on a couple of issues, but no solutions yet. One issue I have is that I cannot add new users to my CRM system. When I run the wizard to add a user, all seems to go well until the end when it tells me the user, which was selected from the list of Active Directory users, doesn't exist in Active Directory! "

writes "Find answers to common questions that arise while planning and installing reporting in Microsoft CRM. As the CRM User Experience team identifies new solutions to common issues, they'll update these pages. • Troubleshooting general issues in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 • Troubleshooting e-mail and Microsoft CRM client for Outlook • Troubleshooting system administration in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 • Self-help and troubleshooting for Microsoft Dynamics"
Enough of the teasing... The new VPC has shipped...

Merging Accounts
Anne Stanton
writes "Thanks for great MS CRM Help files Microsoft! Partners do you know there is an update to these files from March?
Anyway I totally missed that you can merge two accounts in MS CRM! Thinking it wasn't yet possible and telling my client as such.. my client went off to find the solution on their own (these small clients move really fast!) Needless to say I was thrilled when they found the answer (I really do want clients to be empowered!) and when I asked for the steps to repeat...

Accessing PartnerSource
Anne Stanton
writes " recently had a situation where I simply wanted to support my client's interest in accessing either CustomerSource or PartnerSource. They are a licensed Empowered ISV and As it turns out sending an e-mail to Partner Resources with their and The Norwich Group's MBS partner complete contact information just wasn't going to do it. After a couple of incidents that were opened and then closed unsatisfactorly I finally started tapping into other avenues. As it turns out there really is a way to officially request access.

CRM on your XBOX?
mennotk
writes "My topic did fool you didn't it?
Ok enough for the joking....I have no clue if there are CRM freakz outthere that also like to play games on consoles such as XBOX 360. But a few minutes ago the news hit me that the best Microsoft Dynamics CRM related application, macro or sample code that is going to be shared on the Sandbox can win a brand new XBOX 360!!

Exchange Forwarding Rules not working
Guy Riddle
writes "I was recently alerted to a really neat tool from the Exchange Team - the "MFCMAPI" tool.
So what has this got to do with CRM? Well, if you have any users who claim their emails are not appearing in CRM, then this tool might be able to help you find out why. If a user has been upgraded from earlier version of Outlook, there may be some 'rules' sitting in the users account that you cannot see - which may be conflicting with the CRM Exchange Email forwarding rules.

Looking for beta testers
Mitch Milam
writes "Afternoon Folks,
I have a small utility that allows you to enable or disable diagnostic tracing on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 without mucking around in the Registry. ( basically, it does the mucking for you. )
Through the end of May, I would like to find CRM developers, administrators, etc. that can help me test it.
If you are interested, just send me an email:

Ben answers a question asked many times in the CRM Newsgroups
Jim Glass
writes "Ben Vollmer tilts his lance at this issue I have seen asked many times and in many forums: "I have only ever seen this to be an issue on one machine Virtual PC demo environments. But you are in Outlook and you want to show customizations, you open the Web Client and no customization area, and sometimes, no Settings area at all. Why you ask?" After reading his complete response you will know the answer. You will also be able to point others to the answer. Ya gotta luv it.."
Why does my “Settings†area disappear during a demo of Microsoft CRM 3?
Ben Vollmer
writes "I have only ever seen this to be an issue on one machine Virtual PC demo environments. But you are in Outlook and you want to show customizations, you open the Web Client and no customization area, and sometimes, no Settings area at all. Why you ask?"
Dynamics CRM 3.0 Outlook Rule Deployment Wizard Issue
Mitch Milam
writes "Here is a strange little issue that you will run into when you run the Rule Deployment Wizard to place the CRM forwarding rule into each CRM user’s mailbox.
At some point it will allow you to select the names of the people to deploy the CRM Rule to. When you click Next, it will do something magical and show you a list of people who have “passed” or something.

Dynamics CRM 3.0 Outlook Client on Terminal Services
Mitch Milam
writes "A couple of months ago I installed the CRM 3.0 Outlook client on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server using the using the TS Client Deployment Kit.
As part of the configuration, you need to modify the command script ( terminstall.cmd ) that actually does the work. Here is a segment of the customization area:

Microsoft CRM 3 for Dummies has shipped!!!
Ben Vollmer
writes "I just got my copy from Wiley on Friday. The book is geared towards the end user community. The book covers most of the end user scenarios that Working with Microsoft CRM does not. It covers things like working with the Outlook Client, Contact / Account and Opportunity Management, reporting, and much more.

Take Me To Your Unit
Pierre Hulsebus
writes "On of the constant battles we have during installation is the discussion about Units of Measure, or (UOM). First let me explain how and why each system uses UOM's and why it is such a difficult issue. Solomon is used by many organizations to manage sales of products. They Purchase products bring them into inventory, sometimes reprocess them, and then sell them to customers. They buy them in cases, which has 12 boxes. Then they turn around and sell them one box at a time. So what Solomon can do is convert the inventory quantity from 1 case to 12 boxes. This conversion helps at inventory time."
