Creating Solutions: A Custom CRM Usage Log

crmbest writes "Philip Richardson has created and blogged about a solution that creates an log of CRM usage. Typically such a log is used to monitor adoption (ie. have you herded your cats into the barn?). In a series of blog posts he takes you through the process of developing the solution and the deployment package."

The Panning Hand

If you want to scroll down you can use the scroll bars or turn on the panning hand.Once turned on this gives you the ability to make the hand do the scrolling work."

Kimberly Tripp, DotNetRocks and SQL Server 2005 SP1

DynamicAccounting.net writes "For the DBA's out there supporting GP or the psuedo DBA's just working to keep it running, the DotNetRocks show this week has Kimberly Tripp talking about SQL Server 2005 SP1 and the updates included. Kim really is a trip (pun intended) and listening to her blows my mind."

Error Promoting Item to CRM

Larry Lentz writes "Often, when I attempt to send an e-mail from Outlook that is tracked in CRM, I receive the error: An error occurred promoting this item to Microsoft CRM. The Microsoft CRM server could not be contacted or the user has insufficient permissions to perform this action. Do you want to send the e-mail? If you click Yes, the e-mail will be sent out, but no corresponding activity will be created in Microsoft CRM. Working with Partner Managed Newsgroups support, it seems that there is a problem with promoting.... "

What's Next: Microsoft CRM Mobile 3.0

Frank Lee writes "We've finally got a chance to play with the just released Microsoft CRM Mobile 3.0, the setup from the implementation guide was pretty straight forward (to us anyway) and our initial environment was up and running in a few hours. We've decided to start with the Dell Axim x51v PDA. The main reason we went with the Axim x51v vs. one of them hot PDA phones is that it will serve as a good baseline - the x51v fullfilled all the Microsoft CRM 3.0 Mobile requirements with extra room to spare... except for the phone part... And it supports VGA screen resolution mode - 480x640 baby!!! "

Managing SQL RAM for CRM

Larry Lentz writes "Recently I invested in a couple of 1 GB RAM sticks for my CRM SBE server, giving me a total of 3 GB. I felt I got some benefit from it, but not as much as I had figured. Then more recently I happened to be trying to relieve some memory use on the server so I could run a test VPC briefly. I noticed that I had 4 SQL server instances running. This is as expected with the default instance which CRM uses, SharePoint, SBS Monitoring, and ISA 2004. One of these I noticed was using 1.2 GB! Must be my CRM."

A few Items

Larry Lentz writes "I have been working with Partner Managed Newsgroups on a couple of issues, but no solutions yet. One issue I have is that I cannot add new users to my CRM system. When I run the wizard to add a user, all seems to go well until the end when it tells me the user, which was selected from the list of Active Directory users, doesn't exist in Active Directory! "

Merging Accounts

Anne Stanton writes "Thanks for great MS CRM Help files Microsoft! Partners do you know there is an update to these files from March? Anyway I totally missed that you can merge two accounts in MS CRM! Thinking it wasn't yet possible and telling my client as such.. my client went off to find the solution on their own (these small clients move really fast!) Needless to say I was thrilled when they found the answer (I really do want clients to be empowered!) and when I asked for the steps to repeat... "

Accessing PartnerSource

Anne Stanton writes " recently had a situation where I simply wanted to support my client's interest in accessing either CustomerSource or PartnerSource. They are a licensed Empowered ISV and As it turns out sending an e-mail to Partner Resources with their and The Norwich Group's MBS partner complete contact information just wasn't going to do it. After a couple of incidents that were opened and then closed unsatisfactorly I finally started tapping into other avenues. As it turns out there really is a way to officially request access. "

Weekly Dynamic: Custom Reminders From a Smartlist in v9

DynamicAccounting.net writes "In Dynamics GP 9 you can now create a custom reminder based on Smartlist data. The system comes with a number of preset alerts but if, for example, you wanted to get an alert if a specific customer balance was over $20,000, you can do it. Doing this is easy. "

Exchange Forwarding Rules not working

Guy Riddle writes "I was recently alerted to a really neat tool from the Exchange Team - the "MFCMAPI" tool. So what has this got to do with CRM? Well, if you have any users who claim their emails are not appearing in CRM, then this tool might be able to help you find out why. If a user has been upgraded from earlier version of Outlook, there may be some 'rules' sitting in the users account that you cannot see - which may be conflicting with the CRM Exchange Email forwarding rules. "

Looking for beta testers

Mitch Milam writes "Afternoon Folks, I have a small utility that allows you to enable or disable diagnostic tracing on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 without mucking around in the Registry. ( basically, it does the mucking for you. ) Through the end of May, I would like to find CRM developers, administrators, etc. that can help me test it. If you are interested, just send me an email: "
