Dynamics AX Video on Channel 9

writes "Channel 9 has a video up on Production Planning with Dynamics AX (Axapta). It is nice to see the Business side of Microsoft getting some coverage for once!"
Microsoft BI Conference site is live
Chris Webb
writes "...for more information the conference including how to submit abstracts for presentations and nominations for awards. Hmm, now I need to think of a presentation I could give."
Creating Solutions: A Custom CRM Usage Log
crmbest
writes "Philip Richardson has created and blogged about a solution that creates an log of CRM usage. Typically such a log is used to monitor adoption (ie. have you herded your cats into the barn?). In a series of blog posts he takes you through the process of developing the solution and the deployment package."
How to block the installation of USB devices by using Group Policies?
Arlindo Alves
writes " Today I was working at a booth on a Partner Event. I was explaining how we can block the installation of USB devices by using Group Policies. I also showed how we can change the default message a user gets when he try to install such a device. I talked about the fact that we can allow the installation of specific devices like mouse and keyboards. Now one of the customers had a question about can I allow only this specific USB Memory stick. I never thought about it before. So I wanted to find out if you can do that. So I have two identical memory sticks "USB Mini Cruzers" and I want to be able to use one of them and block the other. How does it work? First...."
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver
Scott Hanselman
writes " I'm stoked about this new (and inexpensive) add-on. The Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver is a USB receiver, modeled in the style of the receivers many already have for keyboards and mice, that let's you use your existing Xbox Wireless stuff like the controller and driving wheel with existing games. I've always been a little underwhelmed with Joystick support in Windows, but DirectX 10 (only took 10 tries) tries to rectify that. Additionally, the new "Games for Windows" branding insists that all games that receive the label must:"
The Panning Hand
Thom Robbins
writes " A very cool feature that I just ran across within Outlook and Word is called the panning hand. Let’s say you are reading an email or a news feed in your inbox. If you want to scroll down you can use the scroll bars or turn on the panning hand.Once turned on this gives you the ability to make the hand do the scrolling work."
Downloading Vista RTM
Scott Hanselman
writes " I'm downloading Vista off of MSDN right now at a speedy 2 megs a second....I think I will: Remove all things Office 2007 Beta 2 TR from my current Vista RC2 installation; Upgrade to Vista RTM; Upgrade to the Beta ATI Drivers for Vista RTM (Catalyst 8.31.100); Install Office 2007 Professional. I'll skip the other apps like InfoPath, OneNote, and Visio, until I hear that they've got this whole product key thing fixed. Right now, even though a product key is supposed to allow 10 activations (and really should be 10 PCs) it only allows one application."
The secret sauce for installing Office Professional 2007
Sanjay Shetty
writes " While installing the new office 2007 bits, it started off with having an issue with beta bits of the Compatibility pack for Microsoft Office 2007 File formats. After uninstalling the same, I though life was back on track again and next it had an issue with ActiveSync. This was a real strange one, I could shut activesync and retry or continue and have my system reboot post the setup... The funny thing is you can't shut activesync down straight away... so all I did was open and then minimize it and hit retry again. Guess what the installation proceeded...he most important addition is the To-Do Bar... just amazing. Besides showing whats next on your calendar it also shows you your to-do items from your tasks as well as from emails which you may have marked for follow-up. I just love the To-Do Bar it's just plain awesome..."
Best Outlook 2007 Improvement - Include Calendar
Scott Hanselman
writes " Sometimes when you download multi-gig ISOs and have trouble installing, you look for little features that "make it all worthwhile." Little usabilty stuff, you know. Everyone's raving about the Ribbon interface, and the Outlook "To-Do Bar" but my choice for the best new feature in Office, and Outlook in particular? Check out the "Include" section of the Outlook New Message Ribbon...this makes it all worthwhile. It's bloodly brilliant, and it's about time. Click "Business Card" and you can add your VCard in one click. Click Signature and you can add any of your email sigs in replies or mesages where it was removed. And the very best option? Include Calendar...."
Will Zune take a bite out of the Apple?
Rob Howard
writes " Microsoft is releasing Zune any day now. Personally I have no plan to give up my Apple iPod just yet – although the bigger screen looks pretty nice...Zune has a huge opportunity here. As someone who is increasingly becoming more interested in the business of technology I can’t help but feel a pang of jealously. Zune is a fantastic opportunity for Microsoft and I’m personally excited to watch the story develop – not to mention that Microsoft has a pretty good track record of coming from behind in existing markets."
TechEd Barcelona - The last three days
Jonas Folleso
writes " As you can imagine after reading the posts TechEd this year was really busy for us.You can cram all the great content into one DVD, but you can't capture the true atmosphere and all the people you meet at TechEd into one DVD. You'll have to be there your self....Wednesday evening was all about the infamous, annual Norwegian TechEd party at the Hard Rock Cafe. More than 200 Norwegian delegates where attending TechEd this year, and the Norwegian party is know for being the best TechEd party, so quite a few speakers dropped by as well. As you can imagine, the place was quite crowded and the atmosphere was great!"
Security Guide for Windows Vista is out now
Kevin Remde
writes " With the release to manufacturing of Windows Vista, we're going to also see a lot of the resources surrounding Windows Vista to also be released in their final form. Of course, I'm not going to blog about each one of these when it occurs, but this here Security Guide is one that is pretty important, and one a lot of people have been anxioulsy awaiting. Here's the "chapter summary" graphic from that page, if you'd like an idea of what the guide will cover"
Interview Loki Mgmt Systems on Linex vs .NET and Dynamics AX
Loki Management Systems, has built its business on the Microsoft® platform from the start in 2001 the increasing popularity of the Linux platform piqued its interest. Loki decided to abandon the Linux platform and carve out its niche using Microsoft Dynamics™AX....
Mix '07 and IndiMix '06
Venkatarangan Tnc
writes " Recently Microsoft announced Mix '07 - the conference for web developers, designers and business professionals. It is around April end 2007 in Las Vegas and as of now I am planning to attend it. I was there in last year....The event had good technologies talked like Atlas, AJAX, Mash-ups, WPF & MOSS 2007. For a relief, the event was not Microsoft only affair. It had good participation from other new age web companies like Yahoo & Amazon. This gave the event a good breadth of topics and speakers. I also liked the format and restriction to few hundred partipants."
The invisible system icon
Kate Gregory
writes " I've been using Windows since the beginning. And I use the system icon in the upper left quite a lot, mostly to close things, and especially when the window is off the screen a bit so the X isn't available. In Vista, it looks like that icon/button is gone, but it isn't. Just click where it should be....Double-click to close the window, or do any of the things you would otherwise do on that menu. Isn't that cool?"
